To the Hackers and Script Kiddies
This system really isn’t that important to me. It’s running on an antiquated PC with 2 gigs of RAM and a small hard drive. Basically it is here merely as a platform to share my views, ideas and knowledge. Yes, my education has an emphasis in Information Security, but I make no claims to be an expert or to have put any serious effort into hardening this system. I have more important items on my list and the risk/return just isn’t there. If it were, I’d be on top of application releases and would leverage a thought out solution like Fastly’s Web Application Firewall.
So if you see a hole, let me know. I’ll patch it and can give you credit or write an article on something that is important to you. But if you do compromise this system, which has happened at least once that I know of – just know that I’ll format the disk, plug that hole and restore from a backup. I’ll have to waste time diagnosing when the compromise happened and then compare backups to decide what can be trusted. But in the end you will have achieved nothing to boast about. So I urge you to find another target instead. Maybe take a look and see if there is anything worthwhile for you.
